Over the past few months, my love for false eyelashes have grown exponentially as I found the effect they can add to your makeup look extraordinary. They can literally take your makeup look from a 6 to 10 really quickly creating a more glamorous and wow effect.

So in the name of my love for lashes, I decided to compile a post sharing some of my favourite falsie. I tried to include a range of different styles from the full dramatic doll lashes to the more flirty and wispy kind, so there’s something for everyone and to top it off, they’re all extremely affordable. The one only downside to them is because they are from Aliexpress you’ll have to wait (2-3 weeks) before actually receiving them, but trust me they’re worth the wait!

TIP – Use the Aliexpress app on your phone to save over 30% off your purchase.

Today I spent the day with a friend and fellow fashion blogger, Marie. We started the day with brunch, since we were both quite hungry. We went to a restaurant in Scape’s Shopping Mall called Fish Tales. I ordered the Cheesy Affair which composed of fried battered fish with melted cheese on top and chips. The food was quite itself good but honestly me being extra, I did overdo it by coating my plate with more cheese powder and soon regretted it . However the drink I got, Topical Italian Soda , was seriously amazing, it was slightly sweet and refreshing, just how I like it!

Afterwards, we went shopping around the mall itself. This mall is quite different from most shopping mall in Singapore and comprises of many small boutiques with very affordable clothing. I also found a cosmetic store on the first floor that sells brands such as E.L.F, O.P.I, Colorpop and more, however they do sell them slightly overpriced. Outside the mall, there was also a mini flea market, since it was during the weekend.

Dying from the extreme heat and humidity, I later got a quick drink from Coffee Bean, which surprisingly I’d never been to before. I got the Pear Berry Sweet Tea, which honestly I wouldn’t recommend since it was just an overpriced small basic juice, quite disappointing really.

Spending the last 8 months here in Singapore, has really been an eye-opener for me. A lot of things I’d planned and hoped for, didn’t quite go as expected and in most cases I’d say it was for the better. Here are 10 things I’ve learned along the way while living and studying on the other side of the world.

1. You actually have to study.

For some reason, when people talk about studying abroad, they tell you all about the traveling, partying and meeting new people that you get to do but fail to significantly mention that alongside with all that fun and exploring, you’re still a university student. So that means you still have to attend classes regularly, write assignments, participate in group work projects and most importantly study!

2. Money runs out fast.

Despite Singapore having a much cheaper standard of living than England,  my money often ran out fast! The fact that you’re living in a totally new and different environment, even more so, knowing that you’ll only be there for a limited time, you’re more inclined to do things that you wouldn’t regularly do back home. So constantly trying out new dishes and eating out more, going out to events, parties and travelling a lot.  If you don’t watch how you spend your money carefully, before you know it your bank account will start to tell you, that you should stay at home this weekend and there’s food at home, no need to eat out.

3. Choose your modules/courses wisely.

Alongside with taking university abroad serious, something I learned, was how important it is to choose the right modules. Although in most cases the year/semester abroad isn’t counted towards your overall grade in uni, believe it not, actually thinking carefully before just selecting any old modules will greatly affect how your semester plays out. It could easily make it relaxed and fun or difficult and complicated. So check if a module is non examination, does it have classes during recess week (midterm) and what’s really in the course outline.

4. People can be fake.

Something that quite shocked me at first during my first few weeks of studying abroad was how selfish and fake people can be. Honestly, think I forgot that people like that still exist. So I got quite hurt to discover that a lot of people around me at the time, only knew me to use me. However meeting such people makes you appreciate when you do meet good and genuine ones, which I have. Quite frankly those friendships become special, as you guys share a common bond and truly understand each other.

5. Traveling is awesome.

So I recently traveled around Asia during my recess week and oh my, I can tell you right now, that it was by far one of my highlights while studying abroad. Something about getting away from the stress of being a student and indulging in a new environment is breathtaking. It really is something to remember and the best part is, it’s much cheaper than traveling from your home country, so it’s definitely an opportunity I would encourage everyone to take advantage of.

6. It’s okay to call home.

While studying abroad something that I deeply experienced and a lot of people do, no matter how old, young, far or close you may be, is homesickness. Along with cultural shock you go through a phase of feeling quite lonely and that’s okay, you’re allowed to have bad days. So if you want, call home, talk to your family and friends but don’t leave your heart and soul there. It’s important that you don’t dwell on it and allow it to hinder your experience. Make the most of your time abroad. After all you did decide to come for a reason.

7. You might not come out fluent in the language.

As you may know from my last study abroad post, the primary reason why I chose to study in Singapore was to further learn and improve my Chinese. I was under the impression that a couple of months here and I was bound to come out fluent. Honestly, that hasn’t been the case. Learning a language and in my case Chinese takes time and if you don’t go out of your way and push yourself to really improve, you most likely won’t get the result you hoped for.

8. Record EVERYTHING.

I’m someone who believes in writing down events, taking photos and videos and even sharing them (hence a blog). But seriously, something that I would advise everyone to do is to record anything and everything. Studying abroad really is a once in a life-time kind of opportunity, so make sure to record those key moments. Write a journal, take photos, record videos or even start up a blog. It could be a personal thing just for yourself or for those back home, but regardless, several months and years later you’ll be glad you did.

9. Get out of your comfort-zone.

Something that a lot of people fail to do, myself including (at times) is to get out of your comfort-zone. Like I said, this experience is only for a limited time so speak to strangers, make friends with locals and fellow exchange student. Try that weird dish with a name you can’t even pronounce. Get involved in the community, take up an extra curriculum, go to unusual events and parties. Quite honestly just take the chance, do it!

10 . Don’t expect too much.

Lastly the most important thing I learned over the past few months, is not to expect too much. God knows I was like a child in a candystore before arriving here, anticipating the next chapter of my life, and that’s okay, you’re allowed to be excited just don’t expect too much. After all the best memories are unexpected!

So the day began with me getting some Thai fried rice with chicken and coke in a nearby local street restaurant for breakfast (I know, very smart choice for breakfast). Nevertheless, it was delicious ! Afterwards I decided to try some coconut ice-cream with pineapple, pumpkin and coconut jelly. Now I’m not an ice-cream person and rarely get them but this was the best ice-cream I’ve ever had!  Firstly the unique coconut flavour was so appetizing and the fruits on top just complimented it beautifully that I had to get a second one.

From there I got a tuk-tuks (taxi) to Wat Traimit. The ride was quite an experience, as the vehicle travelled very fast and my hair was just flying everywhere. Even so, it was really fun and I was constantly snapchatting on it, in immense excitement.

My first stop of the day was at Wat Traimit, which is a massive temple known as the golden Buddha. The building was absolutely beautiful and I literally just stood there for ages, gazing at how unique the building was.

Afterwards, I made my way to MBK shopping mall, where I got a fish massage. I’ve heard about these little fishes that literally eat your dead skin away and since then I’ve wanted to try it and I’m happy I did. It definitely felt really weird at first and slightly tingly but the result was amazing. My feet looked fresh and felt smooth and soft. The MBK shopping mall wasn’t my favourite howvever, despite me being a certified shopaholic I got overwhelmed with the numerous stores than all seemed a repetition of each other and after walking around them for a while I just got exhausted.

While shopping I did try some khanom bueang, which is known as Thai crepes, which is taco shaped dessert made from rice flour and coconut cream inside. It was so sweet and good. For dinner I had some Thai fried rice with seafood and coconut milkshake (yes, they have coconut everything) in a restaurant on the top floor of the mall and it was quite tasty.

Since the Bangkok Art & Culture centre is located quite close to the shopping mall, I decided to pay a quick visit there, but of course ended up there for hours (typical me). While there I visited a local fortune teller. It was my first time doing so and while I don’t necessarily believe in them I was just curious and wanted to experience it.  After I attended an opening exhibition called the Enchanted Dream which was by the extremely talented artist, Supamas Taveechotipart (the one who painted the last artwork with lady with dark blue hair and red roses). I was treated to some light and delicious refreshments while there too.

The day started with me getting a Bublicious pearl milk tea and yes it is as nice as it sounds, I call it a plastic cup of goodness. Then I made my way to the platinum shopping mall, which is Thailand largest wholesale shopping mall, with you guessed it, with many stores.

For dinner I tried seafood hotplate from the food court upstairs along with some iced milo and it was by far the best dish I had during my whole duration in Thailand.  The dish was so filling and delicious. Then I treated myself to some not-so-relaxing Thai massage from a traditional Thai massage place called Thai Sabi. All I can is that it was intense, very very intense but I was left feeling reformed afterwards.

Since I’d somehow spent the whole day in the mall, I stayed for the night market, which composed of local busking and street stalls.

Since I’d planned on visiting the Chatuchak market (weekend street market) I got up extremely early. For breakfast I had some strawberry iced milk tea from Cha Tanyong and it was just pink goodness. The market itself was quite interesting. There were many stalls selling authentic clothing and furniture but I found myself more interested in the food stalls and got some fried chicken which was so good and a wrap, which was disappointing.

Next I went to Khaosan Road, another street market and tried some baked banana (which I was secretly hoping would be plantain but nevertheless) was very tasty and sweet. I got a coconut soda which was the most refreshingly amazing beverage I’d tried in Thailand.

Afterwards, exhausted from the constant walking and shopping I went to Charlie’s face and nails treatment to get a pedicure and manicure. The service was brilliant and I’m extremely satisfied with my popping nails.

Then I got some chicken pizza and coconut frappe (yes by the end I became obsessed with all things coconut) at a restaurant called The Pizza Company. I had eaten some much that day that I couldn’t even finish my pizza but even still the pizza just okay.
